DRW v. WEC
No. 2024CV001141
The freedom to vote should not be taken away from someone because they have a print disability. But right now, voters with print disabilities have to give up their right to vote with a secret ballot in order to exercise their right to vote.
These voters have no choice but to divulge who they are voting for when they cast a ballot. These voters must tell someone who they are voting for, so the person providing assistance can fill out the ballot for them. But the Wisconsin Constitution guarantees all Wisconsinites the right to a secret ballot. So as it stands, voters with print disabilities are being denied a constitutional right that all other Wisconsin voters enjoy.
Along with co-counsel at Stafford Rosenbaum LLP and Wilmer Hale LLP, we represent Disability Rights Wisconsin, the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, and a group of Wisconsin voters with disabilities in this case to ensure that the freedom to vote privately is available to every Wisconsinite.
