Despite the accuracy of the November 2020 results in Wisconsin and in every other state in the country, hyper-partisan legislators in some states have sought access to voting equipment and ballots, often with the assistance of third-party, for-profit contractors, to “investigate” those results. In response, the U.S. Department of Justice recently shared guidance noting a variety of important federal laws and interests implicated by these post-election “investigations.”
The Wisconsin Elections Commission, like its counterparts in other states, recently received a public letter supposedly offering legal information pertinent to these “investigations.” This politically-motivated letter is full of misinformation, openly contradicting the U.S. Department of Justice guidance relating to election security.
