USA v. Dugan

On May 30, 2025, Law Forward along with Democracy Defenders Fund and Lowell & Associates LLC filed an amicus brief on behalf of 138 retired state and federal judges urging the federal court to dismiss all charges against Milwaukee Judge Hannah Dugan.
The retired judges argue that the Trump Administration’s indictment of Dugan is “an extraordinary and direct assault on the independence of the judiciary” intended to have a “chilling effect” on judicial decision making at every level.
Judge Dugan was arrested by federal agents at the Milwaukee County Courthouse on April 25 on charges she helped an undocumented immigrant appearing in her courtroom evade federal officers.
