Wisconsin PTA, et al v. Wisconsin State Assembly, et al

No. 2026CV000103

The Wisconsin Constitution guarantees every child an equal opportunity for a sound basic education, free of tuition. Over recent decades, the Wisconsin Legislature has made many promises to fund our public schools, but has broken those promises and short-changed our kids by billions of dollars.

In 2026, we are taking action. Students, parents, advocates, educators, school districts, and community members who support stronger schools in Wisconsin have come together to file a landmark lawsuit against the Wisconsin Legislature for failing to adequately fund public schools. Law Forward is suing the Legislature on behalf of 19 plaintiffs, led by the Wisconsin PTA, who want a declaration that the current system for funding public schools is unconstitutional and must be replaced. Our goal with this landmark lawsuit is to give K-12 students all around the state more opportunity and a brighter future.
